How to Stay Out of the Sun, Kadayawan Festival-style

Because it's summer and with temperatures reaching thirty-seven degrees, we have to stay in the shade (bonus points if it's a room with airconditioning!).

These images were taken last year when my shutterbug friends and I attended the Kadayawan Festival in Davao. While the participants (and audiences) waited for their turn to perform for the Indak-Indak Streetdance Parade, they found ways to stay cool.

good thing they had these props!

how many wide-brimmed hats do you need to keep your head cool?

 hiding under the sea

the small shade is a big comfort for this drummer.

 hiding under a--sea urchin?

pretty big shade for small feet

even the slimmest of lampposts were coveted for their shade

one of the best (and yummiest) ways to stay cool is to drink some fresh buko juice!

if you need to supercool yourself outdoors, arm yourself with these.
